How do I use Raviera, Raviera Pro or Cavianthus

Use it just like you would traditional shavings.  The straw is chopped into short lengths (approximately 5cm) so creates a lovely soft bed, whilst being easy to muck out as the lengths are sifted using a shavings fork.

Are your products absorbent?

Yes.  Raviera and Raviera Pro are both very absorbent with wetness absorbed in the bedding nearest the floor, leaving the top layer nice and dry.  Our Cavianthus bedding is ultra absorbent and we recommend it to anyone who’s experiencing problems with wetness in their stables.

Can I use rubber matting?

Yes Raviera, Raviera Pro and Cavianthus are all suitable to be used with rubber matting.

How do I muck out with Raviera, Raviera Pro and Cavianthus?

Just like you would with shavings, sift out droppings and skip out wet patches.  If possible sweep back any remaining bedding to allow the floor or rubber mats to dry.  To avoid casting, build banks as you would with most other equine bedding and return your bed to the depth required.

How many bales do I need for a new bed?

Obviously, it depends on the size of your loose box and how deep you like your bed, but most of our customers seem to think that 2 bales is sufficient, or 3 if  you like a really deep bed or have a very large bed size.

How many bales should I expect to use every week?

Some people are very efficient with their mucking out, whilst others are a little less bothered about how much bedding wastage they have, but as a rule of thumb if your horse is away from his stable for most of the day, 1 bale a week is sufficient to keep the bed topped up.

What is Raviera and Raviera Pro made from?

Oil seed rape straw.  The fields you see in spring, with fragrant yellow flowers are harvested in mid summer where the oil from the seed is processed for cooking oil and margarines.  The remaining product from the seed itself is used in animal feed, and it’s the remaining ‘stalk or straw’ of the plant that we use to make Raviera and Raviera Pro Horse bedding.

Is Raviera and Raviera Pro a ‘green product’?

The straw from the oil seed rape harvest, has until recently, had no purpose.  So now we have a use for it, making great bedding for our equine friends. This means that Raviera and Raviera Pro are both very environmentally friendly as no additional resources are used to grow it.

My horse has mucus from his nose, are your products dust extracted?

All Caviera products are dust extracted helping your horse’s wellbeing and reducing the dust in the stable or loose box.

My horse’s bedding is very wet and messy, do you have a product suitable to help?

We would recommend you try Cavianthus.  Made from elephant grass, it’s very very absorbent, more absorbent than shavings and therefore ideal for horses who have very wet bedding.
